Automotive Restoration Applications of Eclipse equipment

Why Use Abrasive Blasting for Automotive Restoration?

Blasting is the most efficient and effective method for preparing vehicle surfaces for refinishing. Traditional sanding and chemical stripping methods can be time-consuming, labor-intensive, and even harmful to underlying materials. Wet abrasive blasting and dry blasting offer key advantages for automotive restoration, including:

Eclipse Surface Technologies - Automotive Restoration Applications

Damage-Free Paint & Coating Removal

Removes old paint, coatings, and primers without warping thin metal panels. Allows for precise surface prep without damaging aluminum, steel, or fiberglass. Works on chassis, frames, body panels, wheels, and engine parts including headers.

Eclipse Surface Technologies - Automotive Restoration Applications

Effective Rust & Corrosion Removal

Strips away oxidation, rust, and surface contaminants with ease. Prevents flash rust with moisture-controlled wet blasting. Leaves behind a smooth, clean surface ready for primer, paint or coating application for perfect adhesion.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Find answers to common questions about the automotive restoration applications our equipment is perfect for.

Don’t see your question?  Contact us and we can add it!

What type of blast media is best for blasting applications for automotive restoration?

The best media depends on the surface:

  • Glass bead blasting is ideal for delicate aluminum and thin panels.
  • Garnet and aluminum oxide provide aggressive cleaning for rust removal.
  • Crushed walnut shell or baking soda is commonly used for soft stripping applications.

For more info on blast media, visit ESCA Blast – the leader in blast media & abrasives for over 40 years.

Will wet blasting prevent flash rust on automotive parts?

No, the introduction of water will cause flash rust regardless of who’s equipment you’re using.  But our equipment makes the introduction of a rust inhibititor like Hold Tight 102 easier.  HoldTight is an eco-friendly solution that prevents flash rust while dustless or wet abrasive blasting. It is also a great additive for rinsing after soda blasting and/or dustless blasting as it effectively removes salts & other contaminates.

Can I use Eclipse blasting systems on fiberglass or plastic parts?

Yes! Our adjustable pressure settings and versatile media options allow for safe blasting on fiberglass, composites and plastic surfaces without damage.  We always recommend testing media and pressure settings BEFORE commensing blasting just to be certain you’re getting the surface profile you’re looking for.

Is wet blasting safer for removing lead-based paints from classic cars?

Yes. Wet blasting contains and supresses 92% or more of hazardous dust particles, reducing airborne contaminants when working on pre-1980 vehicles with lead-based coatings.

Do Eclipse blasting systems work for mobile restoration businesses?

Absolutely! Our complete tow-behind systems provide mobile restoration professionals with a fully portable blasting system for on-site automotive work.
